The prize is 7 nights’ accommodation, on a bed and continental breakfast basis, for two people sharing a twin/double room at the Hotel Dionysia in Kalkan, Southern Turkey and includes return shuttle airport transfers. Flights are not included in the prize.
Kalkan is a picturesque village of Kalkan on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast and the “undiscovered” holiday destination – a quiet fishing village, ideal for families and couples, away from nightclubs and bars, where you can relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings.
During the day the ambience of Kalkan is reminiscent of its traditional fishing village roots with visitors spending lazy days around the pool, enjoying the hospitality of the local beach clubs or people watching from the many harbour side cafes and bars, or browsing in the small boutiques and weekly market.
For most people their evening is centred around a meal out, as despite being a small village, Kalkan has over 130 restaurants serving traditional Turkish fare and international cuisine with many restaurants offering rooftop dining with Mediterranean views.
The Hotel Dionysia is a 21 room, boutique style hotel, located on a pretty residential street just a 5 minute stroll from the heart of the village. All rooms are decorated in a traditional Turkish style and are kept spotlessly clean. The hotel has a large swimming pool and sun terrace, and when evening approaches most guests will move to the hotel’s Moonlight Terrace Bar to watch the sun set over the bay of Kalkan. With friendly staff and a warm welcome, you can see why many people return to stay year after year at the hotel.
The hotel is run by Kate McCullagh and her partner Ahmet. As many of you may know, during the winter months of Nov – the end of April, Kate runs the WRP office in Weston. During Marathon weekend she will be leading our staff team at the Novotel Waterloo. Once the marathon is over she returns to Kalkan to re-open the hotel ready for the summer season.
In 2009 John and Maggie Joyner, who run WRP Tours, paid their first visit to Turkey visiting Istanbul for 5 days en-route to Kalkan and Hotel Dionysia. They loved both parts of the 2 week break for which Kate organised the flights and the hotel in Istanbul. Car hire is cheap and they used a vehicle to allow them to also tour around the beautiful and historic part of Turkey. Their first and seemingly not their last visit! Click here for travel ideas.
