The weekend programme: Saturday - Travelling by train, plane or coach … and race registering today?
For some people travelling down and registering on Friday is simply not an option. Both tasks have to be done on Saturday. Having spent possibly 3 or 4 hrs travelling they may not arrive in London until late morning – even early afternoon.
With the clock ticking and supporters in tow tension inevitably may rise; a key question will be…
… should we go to our hotel first with the luggage? (Unless staying at Novotels Tower Bridge or ExCeL)
So, does this mean that, without a break, you have to haul all that luggage out to ExCeL and back? No !!
Why? WRP can offer your a solution that might be invaluable – especially if someone needs toilet, the kids need some food and generally all need a “pit-stop” ….without wasting time. It’s all there waiting for you at Novotel Tower Bridge!
How? To get to ExCel and Race Registration everyone need to use the Docklands Light Railway. The terminus for that is at Tower Gateway – only 200m from the Novotel Tower Bridge – one of the WRP hotels.
The nearest Underground station is Tower Hill – just 100m from the hotel !!
Waiting for you inside that hotel we have available:
Drop into the hotel >>> follow the WRP signs to our staff team >>> ask Elaine, Jim or one of the others, for use of WRP's transit facilities…… and enjoy a break.
Then it’s just 5 mins walk to Tower Gateway, first train for Becton and in 15 mins you will be at Custom House station. Up the ramp and you are in ExCeL and race registration.
Once you have finished at ExCel, take the train back to Tower Gateway, walk back into to the hotel and collect your the baggage. Now you can go to your hotel…. but race registered!
The offer is there, there is no charge for any WRP guests that want to use this facility and it is a logical way to use limited time on Saturday. Countless others make use of it – so why not you?
“It was nearly mid-day when our train got into London. Two adults and two children and far too much luggage! We had seen your tip about using Tower Bridge Novotel facilities and all I can say is that it’s a brilliant idea. The hotel is just 100 yards from where you exit the tube. Your WRP staff gave us a lovely welcome, took our bags and gave us clear directions to find, in order of importance, the loo’s, some food and then the DLR out to registration. We arrived at ExCeL feeling far less stressed with a weight (literally) off our backs. After registering we returned to collect our luggage and grabbed a taxi from the rank outside and 20 mins later were in our own hotel. Worked like a dream and we will do it again next year as it just makes everything and everyone less stressed. One unexpected bonus was that it enabled my wife to appreciate where Tower Bridge was and they used this as one of their spectating points next day. Thanks.” DH |
