The Marine Corps Marathon

An 9 day, fully escorted holiday to Washington – plus an optional 6 day extension tour to the Appalachian Trail and Chesapeake Bay.

Washington is a beautiful and fascinating city and is host to the famous Marine Corps Marathon – an event so popular that its 35,000 places are all taken within a couple of days of them being released. Its scenic route through the centre has meant that it is often referred to as “the Marathon of the Monuments. Organised by the United States Marine Corps everything is of the highest standard – as one would expect and those on our previous tours has been highly impressed and not surprised that it is frequently described as the best marathon in the world. Those not wishing to do the full marathon have the opportunity to run in the accompanying 10K race. WRP has been granted a block of guaranteed entries for the 2010 event.

The tour departs the previous Sunday from Heathrow with a direct flight to Dulles International airport. This gives us a full 9 days to explore the city as well as parts of Maryland and Virginia. On the Monday after the race guests can either fly back or join the six day (self drive) tour up into the Shenandoah Mountains in Virginia. Here the emphasis is on experiencing different aspects of New England – including several days on the Appalachian Trail and finishing down in Chesapeake Bay. On the final day we also hope to take in a 10k race and Fun Run prior to our evening flight home.

For your full protection this holiday will be organised through Tailor Made Travel of Evesham – members of ABTA, ATOL bonded and part of the renowned Titan Travel Group. Full details should be available by the end of November but if you would like further details then contact WRP and register an interest as the group will be limited to 25 marathon places.

Make this a marathon and a holiday to remember!
