WRP Tours is the trading name of Weston Running Promotions, a partnership established in 1989 by John and Margaret Joyner - both marathon runners.
John had just taken early retirement after 30 years of teaching and in the two decades since then WRP has specialised upon two aspects of road running, namely;
From its inception WRP has been based upon the simple premise that the very best event organization occurs when “runners organise either events, or tours, for other runners” and today’s team certainly has a wealth of practical experience.
John had organized his first road race as far back as 1983. Two years later, after his Wyvern 10M race had been voted “Race of the Year”, he was invited to join the national committee of the British Association of Road Races (B.A.R.R.). For 15 years he acted as National Secretary and is now Vice-President as well as being a Senior Race Scrutineer.
Other senior members of the current WRP team include qualified coaches, race directors and race scrutineers.
Between them the team have completed over 200 marathons, a number of triathlons and one recently represented Great Britain at the World Vets Duathlon Championships. In 2000 to celebrate The Millennium, eight of the team assisted John organise “The Island Race” – the first ever relay run around the coastline of Britain – 4,500 miles in 100 days raising over £1million for various charities.
It should be self-evident that the WRP team has a wealth of practical experience and does know what runners need. You will be in very capable hands – evidenced by the fact that in a recent survey over 98 % of our guests said that they would either use our services again or recommend then to other runners, their clubs etc.
In the last 5 years WRP has developed strong links with over 50 charities involved in the London Marathon and is proud that, year on year, its tour packages have been recommended by each of the official charities selected.
This link will be continued in 2011 with the Virgin London Marathon official race charity, Oxfam, recommending WRP to be the service provider for accommodation packages to all its runners.
